Ryan Forbes

Ryan Forbes has over 20 years of professional business valuation experience. Mr. Forbes began his professional valuation career in 2004 at Higgins, Marcus & Lovett, Inc., a business valuation firm based in Los Angeles, CA. While at Higgins, Marcus, & Lovett, Inc., Mr. Forbes focused on the valuation of closely held businesses for a variety of tax compliance purposes. Mr. Forbes continued his professional career at both KPMG LLP and Singer Lewak LLP. During his tenure at both KPMG and Singer Lewak, Mr. Forbes provided business valuations for both financial reporting and tax compliance issues. Subsequent to his employment at Singer Lewak, Mr. Forbes served as vice president at The Corporate Development Team, a start-up corporate development firm focused on buy-side M&A analysis for closely held companies. Mr. Forbes also served as senior vice president at New Century Capital Partners, Inc., a technology focused investment bank based in Santa Monica, CA. Mr. Forbes also served as an adjunct professor of finance at the Graziadio School of Business at Pepperdine University where he taught MBA-level courses in business valuation and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Forbes currently serves as the managing member of California Valuation Group, LLC dba Business Enterprise Appraisal Company ("BEACO"), a full service business valuation firm located in Westlake Village, CA. Mr. Forbes graduated magna cum laude from the College of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Mr. Forbes graduated summa cum laude from the University of California at Los Angeles with a Certificate in Finance, and graduated summa cum laude from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University Bloomington with a Master of Science in Finance. During his academic career, Mr. Forbes assisted professors with various types of financial projects and was invited to speak as a guest lecturer on the subject of business valuation. Mr. Forbes holds the designation of Accredited Senior Appraiser with a discipline in Business Valuation from the American Society of Appraisers. Mr. Forbes also holds the designation of Certified Merger & Acquisition Advisor (inactive) from the Alliance of Merger & Acquisition Advisors. Mr. Forbes primarily deals with the valuation of both closely held asset holding companies (Family Limited Partnerships, General Partnerships, and Limited Liability Companies) and operating companies (C corporations and S corporations) for estate and gift tax compliance purposes, strategic and management planning, mergers and acquisitions, and stock price establishment for purchase and sales purposes. Specific analyses include both enterprise-level valuations as well as majority and minority position appraisals, including the application of both discounts for lack of control and lack of marketability. Report types include Summary Appraisal reports that meet the guidance established by the IRS for estate, gift, and charitable contribution purposes, and Restricted Appraisals for management planning and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Forbes has appraised a variety of businesses in different industries, including real estate, manufacturing, distribution, software, IT consulting, trucking, automotive sales, woodworking, property management, automotive lift manufacturing, water softening, imaging, earth grading, and engineering. Personal: In his spare time, Mr. Forbes enjoys spending time with his wife, two boys, and friends; cooking; working on his house; and restoring his vintage Mercedes roadster.
