A former chief patent counsel to a Fortune 500 communications company with deep first chair trial experience, Thomas Pasternak focuses his practice on patent, trademark, and trade secret litigation, licensing, and prosecution. He protects and defends his clients’ intellectual property rights in district courts throughout the United States, the International Trade Commission (ITC), the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), and the Federal Circuit and Seventh Circuit Courts of Appeal. He serves clients in the ecommerce, communications, biopharma, and consumer products sectors.
A registered patent lawyer with a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the United States Naval Academy, Thomas has a broad technology experience and has written and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications covering such technology as electrical engineering, chemical products, and medical devices.

Zetec: Brought in as replacement counsel in case involving methods of cleaning nuclear steam generators. Case settled favorably after Markman hearing. Westinghouse Electric Company LLC v Zetec, Inc. (W.D. Pa. 2013).
Amazon: Represented Amazon.com as lead counsel in several patent infringement cases. Obtained a rare summary judgment of invalidity and sanctions for a bad faith assertion of patent. Technology Innovations LLC v. Amazon.com, Inc. (D. Del. 2011).
American Radio: Represented American Radio as lead counsel in asserting multiple radio communications patents by American Radio LLC, including leading an extensive pre-trial investigation, and handled an appeal of claim construction at the Federal Circuit. American Radio LLC v. Qualcomm, Broadcom, Intel, and Cisco (C.D. Cal.).
MOSO International B.V.: Lead counsel for MOSO International B.V. and MOSO America Inc., in defense of patent for method, manufacturing bamboo scrimber. Denial of preliminary injunction motion. Case is in progress.
