I'm an employee's HR attorney. I help executives and professionals navigate challenging moments in their jobs and careers from an employment law perspective.
When C-suite and other senior executives, doctors, consultants, and other senior professionals are starting new jobs, leaving their positions (voluntarily or otherwise), or navigating other major transitions, I educate them about their options, help negotiate employment contracts and equity agreements, and act as a sounding board for major employment decisions that have legal implications. My focus is on practicality: I place myself in my client's shoes while at the same time consider the negotiation dynamics from the employers' side.
When professionals are discriminated against, retaliated against, or harassed, or wrongfully terminated, or their employment contracts are breached, I regularly represent them in disputes with their employers in federal and state court, and in arbitration. I also help them understand and protect their rights in the workplace by advising them on human resources and executive compensation issues.
My recent clients include C-suite executives at tech and biotech companies from startups to unicorns, as well as senior executives and professionals in other industries, including cosmetics, health care, and food service. My background spans the entire range of laws and issues affecting relationships between workers and employers, including traditional labor (union) law.
Before founding Gabel Law Firm, P.C., I practiced employment law with two large law firms in San Francisco: Hanson Bridgett LLP, where my clients included the University of California, private companies in the health care, technology, and transportation industries, and municipal governments; and Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, where my clients included Verizon Wireless, Comcast, Kaiser Permanente, and Delaware North Companies. My time with these firms and clients gave me training and experience—including an understanding of corporate human resources best practices and decision-making—that still informs my work.
I have been selected as a Northern California SuperLawyer (2020).
