HIGHRISE GROUP:

Dallas I

John Sebastian

Chairman and CEO

John Sebastian is President of Sebastian Construction Group, a construction management company specializing in the building of very high-end residences. These projects typically range from $ 4 million to beyond $ 50 million and are located not only in the Dallas area but all across Texas (with offices both in Dallas and Houston). Founded in 1948 by John’s father, George Sebastian, the Company has grown to over 60 employees and $ 80 million in annual volume.

John was born in Dallas as a third generation Dallasite – something uncommon in today’s Dallas. John’s grandfather emigrated from Germany to Dallas around 1910. John’s father, George was born in 1919 in Oak Cliff and attended what was then known as Oak Cliff High School (now Adamson High School). John grew up in the Kessler Park area of Oak Cliff and attended both Sunset High School and the Skyline Career Development Center (in their architecture program). John attended Texas Tech University where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree. He was also recognized as the top graduate in the Architecture Design Program.

When John initially joined his father’s firm in 1982, his focus was on the architectural side of the company. (The Company at one time offered both architectural and construction services). Through current day, John maintains his status as a registered architect in the State of Texas although he has not fully practiced in this profession since 1992. Upon his father’s death in 1992, John changed the direction of the Company to focus solely on construction management. As the Company grew, it began working for a variety of noted architects – both local and national. including such highly regarded firms as Robert A. M. Stern (New York) and Quinlan Terry (England).

Sebastian Construction Group’s work has included many of the most prominent residences in Dallas over the last fifteen years including residences for the Beck, Baron, Cox, Crow, Dedman, Hicks, Ford, McReynolds, Muse, Pearlman, and Perot families among others. The firm has also completed significant renovations to some of Dallas’ most famous residences including the Phillip Johnson designed home on Strait Lane and the Edward Durrell Stone designed home on Park Lane (both in Dallas). Their work has been featured in numerous books and periodicals including Architectural Digest.

John lives in the Knox-Henderson area of Dallas but very much enjoys his “weekend ranch” in Athens (southeast of Dallas). He has two children: Jason Sebastian (33) a Texas Tech graduate and an entrepreneur with several business ventures; and Kristen Sebastian (31) a Vanderbilt graduate currently employed by Southwest Airlines in their Change Management Group. John also has two step-children: Emily Davis (32) a University of Oklahoma graduate and also an entrepreneur that recently started her own day spa business; and Ben Davis (30) also a graduate of Texas Tech employed as the Client Care Manager for Sebastian Construction Group. All of his children grew up in the Highland Park school system in Dallas.

Other than his ranch passion, John enjoys travel and is a member of Highland Park Methodist Church and is involved in several select charity organizations. John was a founding board member of the Texas Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture. John also served on the board of the Dallas Historical Society where he served as its Facilities Chairman. And currently serves on the board of the Dallas Architecture Forum.
