Jeremy Monthy

Jeremy Monthy has tried cases to verdict in federal and state courts across the country, including California, the District of Columbia, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and his home state of Texas. Drawing on his training as a young attorney by Chief Justice John Roberts, Jeremy has also argued in federal and state courts of appeal. Jeremy has also successfully handled arbitration hearings to award, resulting in full defense verdicts and over $50 million in compensation to commercial, energy, and sports clients.

The majority of Jeremy’s work involves business disputes in the energy, health care, and public interest areas, but he has handled and assisted Andy and Derek in white collar criminal cases as well. Jeremy also manages the sports litigation practice at the firm. He has represented teams, athletes, agents, and sports agencies in lawsuits and arbitrated disputes governed by a number of leagues and associations, including Major League Baseball, the National Football League, and NASCAR. Jeremy’s passion for sports extends into the community, where he served as President and Chairman for the Astros Foundation for five years and currently volunteers and serves on the board of one of the nation’s largest recreational leagues for young women, the West University Softball Association.

Jeremy has a demonstrated interest and track record handling matters with an international component, particularly involving Asia. In college and graduate school, Jeremy learned Mandarin Chinese, conducted research in China, and served at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. After law school, Jeremy worked for over ten years at Hogan Lovells, a global law firm headquartered in Washington, DC, representing corporations, financial institutions, and governments, including the Government of Japan. While at Hogan, Jeremy handled lawsuits and investigations involving documents and data in Chinese, and he argued before the Organization of American States. As the “most diverse major metropolis in the country” and a hub of international trade and commerce, Houston is an ideal place to serve clients whose problems extend across borders and oceans.

Clients rely on Jeremy’s tireless work ethic and habit of examining all sides of an argument or case. Like all attorneys at DHM, Jeremy analyzes a case and plots strategy working from the closing argument at trial backward, which results in greater efficiency and thematic consistency than reactive litigation. And clients are in good hands when a full trial on the merits is the best course of action. As a former stage actor and director trained in trial preparation and jury argument by Rusty Hardin, Jeremy relishes time before a jury.

Please refer to DHM’s Case Studies page for summaries of Jeremy’s experience and victories for clients.
