Gary Shields, CFA
Gary Shields holds 30 years of experience in helping business owners achieve their financial goals. He has held senior investment banking positions with major firms and has extensive experience in investment banking, research, and venture capital. Shields’ unique background with entrepreneurs, company founders, high net worth families, board members, and venture capital firms is grounded in developing solutions that enhance their wealth.
In addition to Shoreline, he is a co-founding Managing Partner of CSJ Capital and is Founder and Managing Director of Avtech Ventures which has managed investments for its high net worth and ultra-high net worth clients. This includes the billion dollar Avalon Capital Group, the family office of Ted Waitt, founder of Gateway Computers. Before Avtech, Shields co-founded Flemming, Lessard & Shields, a San Diego-based investment bank that advised dozens of entrepreneurs and investors on strategies aimed at maximizing value for stakeholders. Representative clients included Laser Power Corp, WebSideStory, Enerdyne Technologies, Cubic Corporation, General Dynamics Electronic Systems and many others. He was also a successful entrepreneur holding the title of SVP Corporate Finance and Development at Integrated Medical Systems, where he negotiated an all-cash sale of the company to Eli Lilly.
Shields is McMicken Scholar and received his bachelor's degree with honors from the University of Cincinnati and attended Georgetown University’s MSFS program. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder and has served on more than a dozen corporate boards of directors, including the Boards of Tomotherapy, HealthMedia, Sircon, Nomadix, Ardesta, Media.net, Clark-MXR, Exernet, Rebol Technologies, Amazingmail, and others. Shields holds Series 79 and 63 securities licenses, and has been an active member of the CFA Institute, the CFA Society of San Diego, Association for Corporate Growth, Corporate Directors Forum, and the North County Estate Planning Council.
