Ellen J. Shadur represents private and public entities in traditional labor relations and employment matters. She has extensive experience with organizing drives, collective bargaining, grievance arbitrations and unfair labor practice charges, primarily for clients in healthcare, higher education, hospitality, manufacturing, and local government.
Ellen also defends employers in employment litigation in state and federal court and before administrative bodies. And, she advises employers on hiring, discipline, termination, protection of trade secrets, family/medical leave and accommodating disabilities, WARN Act compliance, wage and hour issues (including prevailing wage), and drafting handbooks and policies.
Ellen brings the insight of an in-house lawyer to her practice, having previously served as associate general counsel for a European manufacturer. She also has been trained and has practiced as a mediator, which gives her a unique ability to look beyond the immediate question at hand and see the longer-term strategic goals and interests at stake.
Whether a workforce is union or non-union, or seeking to be represented by a union, Ellen finds reasoned, practical solutions to establish and maintain workplace stability and to support the employer's business objectives.
Ellen is a Vice-Chair of the American Health Lawyer’s Association Labor and Employment Group.
