David M. Traversi is the Chief Executive Officer of Traversi & Company, LLC. (“TAC”) (www.traversi.com). TAC provides institutional quality executive advisory services (specifically, executive coaching, strategic advisory, and executive team building), private placement, M&A advisory, and restructuring services to chief executives in a wide variety of industries across the U.S. Mr. Traversi is also the author of the highly acclaimed The Source of Leadership: Eight Drivers of the High-Impact Leader (New Harbinger Publications, 2007), and a frequent speaker on leadership and business. Mr. Traversi is also the Chair of a TIGER 21 () group in San Francisco.
From 2014 through 2018, Mr. Traversi was President of and led day-to-day operations as well as institutional fund raising for Calmwater Capital, a Los Angeles-based provider of commercial real estate debt. Under Mr. Traversi’s leadership, the firm doubled in size, raised $1.5 billion of institutional capital from name-brand endowments, foundations, public and private pension funds, family offices, and global banks in the U.S., Asia, Europe, and South America.
Beginning in 2012 and through 2018, Mr. Traversi managed the launch of Karlin Ventures, hired the management team, and joined as Advisory Board Member of this Los Angeles-based early-stage investment platform. Under his board leadership, Karlin Ventures invested $100,000 to $1 million in 42 investments, primarily in education technology, digital media, healthcare, IT, and financial services.
From 2002 to 2012, Mr. Traversi started, secured funding for, and provided executive oversight to three start-ups: a fabless semiconductor manufacturer, a digital media service company, and an investment fund.
From 2000 to 2002, Mr. Traversi was the Co-founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer of PRE Solutions, Inc. (since sold), which founded and built the nation’s largest electronic processor of prepaid telecom products. From 1997 to 1999, Mr. Traversi was President of Sirrom Capital Corporation, an NYSE-listed financial services and investment firm (since sold).
From 1989 to 1996, he was a General Partner and Senior Managing Director in the Corporate Finance Department of Montgomery Securities (now Banc of America Securities LLC), the nation’s premier investment bank serving growth businesses in the 1990s. At Montgomery, Mr. Traversi founded and ran the firm’s real estate practice and co-headed the firm’s FinTech corporate finance group.
He has served on the boards of directors of a number of public and private companies and has practiced as a business lawyer. Mr. Traversi has a B.S. degree in Business Administration and Finance from California State University, Chico; an M.B.A. degree from Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley; and a J.D. degree from University of California, Davis.
