Mr. Johns advises on technology initiatives and unique data
issues. He has more than 17 years’ experience in electronic
discovery data collection, processing, and hosting. He is well
versed in many of the software applications used in eDiscovery
and forensics. In the years before joining AlixPartners he worked
with clients at Deloitte.
Before moving into the litigation support field, Brian was a
system administrator who managed large e-mail and backup
platforms for Bank of America and Wachovia, now Wells Fargo.
Brian has a master’s degree in business from Gardner-Webb
University. He is a Certified Information Systems Security
Professional and is certified in Clearwell, Mindseye, and
Mr. Johns has provided EDD support on some of the largest
matters in the US from acquisitions to investigations during
his 18 years in the eDiscovery area. He is an expert in EDDdata processing and review systems.
Created process for custom hashing over 200MM files to eliminate duplicate files and save millions in review costs.
Developed tape restoration process to log and extract 4000 recovered data tapes with very tight deadlines.
Collaborated to create several case and evidence tracking
systems at multiple large organizations including one that
meets the ASCLAD (American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors) standards.
As a CISSP, Brian has worked with White Hat teams to
perform data center audits and penetration tests on ATMs, mobile banking terminals and websites.
Instituted security training and audit procedures that exceeded legal requirements imposed by state and federal laws for data storage and classification.
Prepared reports and metrics on an ongoing basis as to timelines and various project specific information. Liaised with QA,Forensics and Engineering departments around best practices for each department and specifically around software usage.
Assisted in an ad-hoc basis on technology requirement gathering and/or testing and evaluation.
Led all ESI processing nationwide in multiple data centers implementing a variety of software. Oversaw all data hosting in Clearwell and Kcura Relativity.
Oversaw all client requested SAS 70 and security audits of data centers and data processing facilities.
Directed vendor restoration projects to restore tapes for investigations and litigation.
Served as Wachovia’s E-Discovery expert for affidavit response and depositions.
Collaborated with other leaders to institute corporate E-Discovery standards and procedures across all lines of business.
Led team that delivered all E-Discovery Systems architecture, security, and support, including installing Windows servers worldwide with storage exceeding 500TB used for litigation and internal investigations.
Spearheaded project using Google appliances to index internal data for E-Discovery.
Instituted policies, procedures, and applications to extract email and home space data for employees under review.
Received a Spirit Medallion, the second highest award in the company, for linking transactions, bank accounts, employee account
views, and IP addresses for online banking together so that employees could find information on just one system to find out if anaccount had been compromised, which saved the bank thousands of hours per year.
Constructed/supported Windows servers in local and overseas offices.
