Barbara E. McNamara
Barbara has specialized in family law matters since June 1997. She became a Certified Family Law Specialist in 2008, which means she passed a one-day specialization bar exam on family law. Certification includes an ethical peer review and maintenance of 36 continuing legal education units every 3 years. There are only 164 family law specialists in Orange County. Barbara’s practice is exclusively limited to Orange County and Long Beach family courts. Over the past 22 years, Barbara has helped hundreds of clients reach successful conclusions to their family law matter. Her practice includes the following areas of law: divorce, establishing paternity, establishing or limiting spousal support, child custody and child visitation issues, including drafting parenting plans and calculating child support.
Barbara accepts selective domestic violence matters. She will draft or review a prenuptial or post-nuptial agreement. Barbara also accepts modification cases wherein outdated orders warrant changes to orders post-judgment.
What sets Barbara apart from the big firms? She returns phone calls and emails within 12-24 hours. She takes the time necessary to clearly explain the status of the client case as the matter progresses. Barbara charges competitive rates with the big firms, but she is conscientious and fair in her billing. Barbara will try to solve the problems and settle the case whenever possible because that is usually best for the client. However, when settlement is not an option in a case, Barbara will zealously advocate during litigation and she is not intimidated by big firm opposition.
Barbara is a Southern California native who grew up in Orange County, California. Barbara is happily married since 2000, and she and her husband have two teenage boys. Barbara has been a solo-practitioner throughout her entire law career, except for 2012-2013, when she had a short experience with a large family law boutique firm in Long Beach. For a variety of reasons, Barbara returned to solo-practice in 2013, as she prefers the flexibility and challenge of practicing law as a solo practitioner. Barbara’s hobbies include watching her sons participate in football/rugby/volleyball games, training her three Labrador dogs, walking at Dog Beach, photography and writing.
